Motion 25-12: Return to the 60 Second Countdown to Close the Breakout Rooms

Proposed by Sandra C

Issue:

I move that we return to a 60-second countdown to close the breakout rooms.

Background:

We have tried the 30-second countdown for over a month, and I find that people who have just started their share get cut off. A 60-second countdown would give more time for a less abrupt transition, and give people time to say thank you at the end.

The original proposal that change the timing stated: “We have never tried a 30-second countdown. A test for a month would be worthwhile, after which if someone makes the motion we could consider changing it back.”

Name: First, Last Initial
Both Name and address will be kept confidential
Issue: I move that we return to 60-second countdown to close breakout rooms
Typically we wait for 9 months before reversing a previous decision. If the motion is approved, when would you like this motion to be instituted?
If the motion does not pass, would it be worthwhile to have a Town Hall type discussion of the issue?

I agree with moving back to 60 second close. I’ve seen a few times where people got cut off during their share.

I appreciate this group’s willingness to try something and re-consider. 60 seconds makes sense to me. I am hesitant to jump in at 30 because of getting cut off. It often takes me until the end to find words for my share!

Agreed. 60 seconds is too short of a transition. Thank you to the group for trying it. For me, this is a safe group to try new things and see what does or does not work.

I support returning to the 60 second countdown, so people don’t get cut off abruptly. It was worth trying 30 seconds, but I don’t think it’s working.

I agree with returning to 60 sec as it may give an additional fellow an opportunity to complete a share.

I agree with the proposal to return to the room with a 60 second countdown, I have found that the person who is chairing the meeting on that particular day has to leave the breakout room even earlier to get back to the main room again to read the script for closing. It seems to be rushed for those who just begin a share and those who are in service.
