Survey: Addressing the Issue of Pre-meeting Chat

At the August Business meeting, during the New Business part of the meeting, this issue was raised: I would like to discuss the ‘excessive’ verbal chat that happens during the  ‘pre-meeting’. I do not appreciate all the talking. Out of the subsequent discussion, a motion arose: To create an ad hoc committee to address the issue of pre-meeting chit-chat.

Here the August Business Meeting Minutes

Three Comments

In the course of the discussion of the issue, 3 comments that included actionable solutions were voiced. A survey asked whether any of these ideas would be worth pursuing and whether members had any supportive suggestions.

These were the suggested solutions to either endorse or oppose:

  • Can we add to the initial message in the waiting room?
  • Could there be a ‘Self-Care-style’ slide, screen shared, at about :25?
  • Could a pre-meeting breakout room be created for a ‘quiet space’?
  • None of the Above.

Additionally, members were given the opportunity to offer their thoughts or suggestions. The results of the survey are presented in this document:
