Issue:
i would like to make a motion that we include both in the opening of meeting and opening of break out rooms that ‘we strongly discourage sharing while driving a vehicle’ or words to that effect
Background:
At today’s meeting I was a room host and someone was sharing while driving. I did not know this until their audio became so intermittent and unclear that I had to unmute myself and tell the person that we were having trouble hearing her and that she was going in and out. I suggested that if she was moving that maybe she could find a spot where we could hear her and stay there – I still did not know she was driving, could have been walking outside or around indoors. That was when she said she was driving and then suddenly stopped which was triggering for me, the room host, who had intervened.
1) sharing on zoom while driving is dangerous to the person sharing and others on the road
2) in addition, the room host and/or chairman and/or other members in the meeting can be put in a triggering position of managing another person’s dangerous behavior

Hi! I have mixed feelings on this. I talk to fellow travelers regularly while driving with a hands free set up. I feel like this is a responsible use of technology. It is certainly a normative behavior for drivers to be on the phone while behind the wheel, for better or worse these days.
The morning meeting occurs within commuting time for many who may wish to share but also need to get someplace by a certain time by car.
I would not support this motion, although if it passed I appreciate that it says discourage rather than disallow.
thank you for this! i have very strong feelings about this! i understand people like to listen while driving but i get nervous when people have the camera on , drive and share. It upsets me. i cannot listen and i get co defendant. i am afraid for other drivers and pedestrians. it is not safe.
i hope we can resolve and request no driving, or listen only or park!

I generally support this motion, and glad to hear point 2 mentioned. The meeting extends a breakout room participants option of asking the breakout room chair to time them. This is a privilege and courtesy, not an entitlement or right. I’ve heard at least one participant push the envelope, asking the chairs to “provide a verbal, cause I don’t have access to visual.” The chair is not a personal concierge, and the tone was borderline rude and disharmonious to other members.
