Proposed by the After-meeting Ad hoc Committee
An ad hoc committee consisting of members of the SMR community have been meeting to discuss issues raised regarding the after-meeting fellowship time that takes place on the SMR zoom channel following the daily meeting. Issue:
The ad hoc committee proposes that new opening and closing scripts be developed and adopted to introduce both the Newcomer session and the after-meeting fellowship space. We recommend that these scripts make clear the safety rules and guidelines for the after-meeting fellowship space, particularly addressing how timed shares and cross talk rules differ from the main SMR meeting.
Background:
The after-meeting has long been a tradition of the SMR community and, over time, has adopted a set of unwritten rules regarding appropriate behavior in that space. Unfortunately, newcomers to the space are not aware how the safety rules and guidelines differ from the main SMR meeting which can result in confusion or upset. The committee believes that it would be highly beneficial for these unwritten rules – especially regarding timed shares and relaxed crosstalk guidelines – to be written and read daily at the start of the newcomer session by the Newcomer Greeter.

yes pls. pls consider having a co-host for after meeting as well? for entry 30 mins, so folks not stuck out of joining parking lot? can those who take the meeting be servants not crosstalking shares after a share is done? (leaders of after meeting- being allowed one share perhaps) but not to be like a responder to all)? not having an authorjty figure vibe – not holding courtt for their own long shares and multiple replies?
I support this with the caveat that it only apply to the newcomer period.

I agree. I see this as very beneficial.
Good idea. Some hosts are real good at articulating the unwritten rules which have evolved and work well. It would be good to have a script so all after meeting hosts can set the stage and facilitate the after meeting in a similar way.

there’s been inconsistency in the way “timing” is used. some say we don’t time unless…and then use a timer if shares get too long. others leave it like the Wild West.
Agreed! It’s a little loosey-goosey and could benefit from a short formalized script to get it off to a good start. It doesn’t have to be script-read but at least maybe a short list of bullet points, so whoever is hosting can express it however they like without missing any of them.
