Dear ACA Fellowship Member,

We are grateful to know that ACA has such a strong fellowship in emotional recovery. We had over 2,800 ACA members from 68 countries participate in the 2023 Annual World Convention (AWC) and we are excited to celebrate our 46th birthday this month.

We realize that the ACA journey from hurting to healing to helping is a long and varied one for each person.  Many ACA members have reported that giving service has helped them progress in this journey.  We are grateful for all the support from our members through 7th tradition donations and giving service.

Your World Service Organization (WSO) provides support to our fellowship and meeting groups that helps carry the message to those who still suffer.  We do this by developing and publishing ACA literature, providing meeting and public services support, and maintaining the ACA website, including the meeting listing directory, etc.

We are writing to you because we find ourselves in a unique and challenging situation and we need your support to ensure the sustainability of the ACA World Service Organization (WSO) Board of Trustees. Given a unique combination of circumstances, we are down to three active Trustees, which is the minimum number of Trustees for a non-profit board recommended by the California Attorney General’s office and without Board Trustees, the ACA WSO would potentially have to be dissolved as a California corporation. Therefore, we have been proactively taking steps to avoid that outcome and ensure ACA WSO continues to be viable.  This is an urgent topic, and it will be discussed further at the February 3rd Quarterly Delegates Meeting and we encourage you to send a delegate on behalf of your meeting or attend as an observer.

We have an immediate need for experienced long-term ACA members who may have given extensive service in the past and may have rotated out of service to step aside for others.  We are writing to ask you to apply or consider a path to serving as a Board member.  You can help to make sure WSO has a broad range of experience, emotional recovery and diversity, so that it continues to be a valuable resource to the fellowship.  You can find the qualifications, applications and other pertinent information on the Nominating Committee webpage.  For those interested in applying as a candidate to serve as a Board Member, please contact the Nominating Committee at ChairNomCom@acawso.org.

For those of you who may not have extensive service experience, one of the main qualifications for serving as a Board member is experience giving service on a WSO committee. This WSO service work will not take all your time and energy, and you will not do it alone.  We know it is important to match your passion with service activities.  There are a variety of opportunities to serve in committees, including:Planning Conference meetingsLiterature and PublishingMember ServicesHospitals and Institutions (e.g. prisons)ABC Study and Concept 2 & 6 Study

We thank you for considering the best ways you can support ACA WSO in serving the fellowship. Please know that the ACA WSO is operational; however, more help is needed at this time.  We hope and trust that together we will develop the solutions required to strengthen and grow our ACA fellowship in the years ahead.

In loving service,
Bradford, Sue and Tamara
