The Revision Continues…

During the last 4 months, members of Strengthening My Recovery worked out suggested changes to the current script. To explore the details of the process, turn to this page on the website.

At the October Group Conscience business meeting it was decided that the revision process would continue by formally addressing the comments suggested below, as well as other issues that came up late in the revision process. More information about the continuing process and the way in which you may participate will be forthcoming.

Below is the most recent version of the revised script. (Nov. 7, 2021)

In October, a survey was offered directly to our membership asking, “Would you recommend that the new script be used at our morning meeting?” Of the 79 members who responded to the survey, 70 said “yes”, and 9 said “no.” This corresponds to 89% in favor, 11% against.

Thank you, everyone for participating in this process. Three cheers for modeling grace, patience, trust and perseverence. This is what recovery looks like.

I suggest adding the word “afterwards” in the following:
On Thursdays: ” ….we just chime in and read a paragraph from the Solution. AFTERWARDS,
remember to self-time for a minute or less…..

All other days: “…..one or two statements from the list. AFTERWARDS, remember to self-time
    for….”

Lastly, I suggest we mention the website name after the word “website” ….”The security of our members is important….read the SAFETY section of our website: ACAMorning.org

I’ll save this for next year if I am too late.
A million thanks for all the love that keeps going into this meeting.

Thank you all for your hard work on the script. Y’all did an amazing job!!
    * I like comfort rules or comfort agreements.
    * Also, in regard to the room host timing people who are sharing – unless they indicate they are starting their timer, I do set mine. I have had people who have forgotten to time themselves and gone two minutes or more over. I think this is for the benefit of the whole group, not to be punitive but to allow as many people the opportunity to share. I would want someone to do this for me if I forgot to set my timer.

Thanks for all the hard work on this! I really appreciate the updates.
    — I don’t think the renaming of phone numbers is necessary. It could take up too much time at the beginning of the breakouts.
    — Is this saying that room hosts are not required to time everyone or that room hosts are not allowed to time anyone? People often forget to time themselves. If the room host isn’t conscious of that, several shares may run very long. I usually time everyone, and I’ll interrupt if they’re 45 seconds or a minute over. I don’t think timing everyone should be required, but I do think it’s a good idea. Limiting people who go very long is being kind to others who are waiting.

The revision process has been very informative, productive and caring! I’m really looking forward to hearing and hopefully using this NEW script. Thank you ALL for your time and generosity towards making it a more inclusive and loving script!💕

The script revision is excellent. Thank you for your efforts! I like the term “Group Comfort Agreements” or “Group Comfort Guidelines.”

If you dropped the word loose , that would be ok with me! Initially it brings up an odd feeling . Just using the word relaxed accomplishes the job, without having to ask what are they talking about. Loose feels confusing and beyond necessary. Other than that, I can’t heap enough praise your way. You folks are doing God’s work, big time! Thanks for this Meeting!

Thanks so much to those who did service reviewing and proposing changes to the script and developing this thoughtful and thorough process for arriving at its final amendment. Kudos to you all.

a partial phone number. If you would like to change that listing to a name please speak
    up now.
    Reply: against this.
    1. 50% of people attend ACA SMR on phone where phone# is displayed, if the majority of the phone attenders asked to have their # changed to their name, it would be a burden for the level of effort required by the tech host, room host, and moderator

    1. Jim R says:

Thank you, Robert, for your concern.
In my experience, there may be 1 to 3 person’s with a phone number in a breakout room. The room host just jots down a name and number and renames the participant while someone’s share is underway. It should not take up much time. Again, this is only for dial-in participants who are unable to change their names.
